| Probably everyone at one time or another

| has collected coins. Some people save old

| | alone and think about the times we spent

| wheat pennies they find in change and

| | together in the years gone by, oh well,

| throw them in a jar. Other people collect
| |
| | at least it's always great memories when

| state quarters, and some others collect
| |
| | it comes to you, dad.

| certain coins like nickles or dimes, and

| | Now as I regain my mental composure, if I
|
| try to build a complete collection over
| |
| | ever had one, I want to say that I never
|
| time. A lot of folks think coin
| |
| | lost the desire to collect coins. And as
|
| collecting is the hobby of king's and
| |
| | I got old enough to work full time, and
|
| truthfully, it's often called that. A
| |
| | live on my own I started and built a
|
| king may be able to build a giant
| |
| | fairly large coin collection. I didn't
|
| collection of coins, but I promise you,

| | have much money as I never went to
|

| | college or trade school, and I have

| when I was a young boy, my grandad would

| go upstairs and open a safe we had,

| old Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars. My

| | you were interested in, and what price
|
| edge on the table top and flip it on the

| | you were willing to spend monthly. I

| side with my finger and the coin would
| |
| | selected miscellaneous U.S. coins,
|
| spin wildly around on the table like a
| |
| | everything from old large cents from the
|
| toy top. The coins were frosty silver or
| |
| | 1800's to silver mercury dimes and
|
| whitish colored and were beautiful to
| |
| | buffalo nickels etc. And I chose to only
|
| look at, they were large and heavy, not
| |
| | spend $20 a month, for me this was
|
| like the little coins we have today. I
| |
| | perfect and for about a year or more I
|
| often wondered how many folks actually
| |
| | stayed in the program and over time I got
|
| carried these things around in their
| |
| | a nice bunch of coins from them, then
|
| pockets everyday, it only took a few of
| |
| | something happened and the company folded
|
| them to weigh quite a lot.

| After my grandad passed away back in

| | received any more coins from them and I
|
| 1969, my dad sold the old silver dollars,

| | no longer saw their ad in the magazines.

| I don't think he really wanted to, but my

| deep indebt, so dad had an auction and

| | looked kinda white in color, examining

| was: " Joesph W. Barr ". My dad looked in
| |
| | them closely after I got back home, I
|
| his wallet at some dollar bills he had,
| |
| | discovered they were both pre 1964 silver
|
| and sure enough he had one that had the
| |
| | Washington quarters. I figured somebody
|
| signature " Joesph W. Barr " on it. Dad
| |
| | must of needed money to buy some
|
| took the dollar from his wallet and kept
| |
| | cigarettes or milk or something, and must
|
| it in an envelope in his old roll top
| |
| | of used some of their old coins, I was
|
| desk, and after checking his money for
| |
| | just lucky enough to had been there at
|
| several days afterwards, dad found some
| |
| | the right time and place to get them in
|
| more of them. Sometime later dad mailed
| |
| | my change.
|
| the dollar bills to the address in the

| | One place to find a lot of nice coins is
|
| magazine ad, and sure enough he soon got
| |
| | to go to different banks and buy rolls,
|
| a check for the dollars plus an extra
| |
| | search through them carefully, and you
|
| dollar each. Dad continued searching and
| |
| | will be surprised of the neat finds you
|
| sending in them " Joesph W. Barr " dollar
| |
| | may come across, plus just add a few out
|
| bills for awhile, then after a period of
| |
| | of your pocket change to replace the ones
|
| time, the guy no longer was accepting
| |
| | you want to keep from the rolls, and you
|
| them.

| Dad then started buying a few Indian head
| |
| | for some different rolls of coins to
|
| cents and some buffalo nickels. Then as
| |
| | search through.

| he got older and money seemed to get a
| |
| | Another place that is fairly good for
|
| lot more tighter, dad quit buying coins
| |
| | finding some rare coins is at local flea
|
| and turned to a new hobby, doing
| |
| | markets, be careful though as many of the
|
| sweepstakes. But by this time, I was
| |
| | folks at these places are very aware of a
|
| hooked, I just loved the look of the old
| |
| | coins value, and they often ask for much
|
| coins, the silver ones and the old copper
| |
| | more then what the coins are worth. Read
|
| large cents, they just seemed so neat
| |
| | up on the coins you are interested in
|
| compared to the boring coins of everyday
| |
| | buying, or better yet, take along a
|
| use. Now as I am writing this article, I
| |
| | pocket coin price guide with you when you
|
| stumbled across an interesting article

| | go to buy coins, it's better to be
|
| about the " Joesph W. Barr " dollar bills

| | thrifty then foolish.

| Association' it said, the following: "At

| one time, it was speculated that the

| | Lincoln cent that was made from 1909 up

| notes signed by Treasurer Joseph W. Barr

| | to present, and I have every Jefferson
|
| would eventually hold a high numismatic

| | nickel from the first one that was made
|
| value since he was in office for only 23
| |
| | in 1938 to present, and I have a nice
|
| days in 1968-69. However, during that
| |
| | sized wooden chest full of miscellaneous
|
| period, a total of 484 million notes were
| |
| | U.S. coins, including silver dollars,
|
| produced with his signature. The high
| |
| | mercury dimes, buffalo nickels, Large
|
| quantity produced dictates that the notes
| |
| | Cents and many more unique and rare
|
| will never be considered rare in our
| |
| | coins. I figure the coins will make a
|
| lifetime. Interestingly, in 1995,
| |
| | nice gift someday, something to leave to
|
| numismatic author Alan Herbert stated, "A
| |
| | my daughter and her children, and maybe I
|
| $1 Barr note deposited in an
| |
| | can spark that fire in them, that my dad
|
| interest-bearing account in 1969 would
| |
| | started in me, the joy of coin
|
| have been worth over $4.00, figuring 6%
| |
| | collecting. So start checking your pocket
|
| interest compounded annually. A
| |
| | change today, you just never know what
|
| circulated Barr note kept in a
| |
| | rare finds you may come across.
|

| So that explains why that guy probably

| | collecting. One program that stand's out

| quit buying the " Joesph W. Barr " dollar

|
| collectible for a little while, but they
| |
| | to professionals, and it cost under $20.

| just never caught on. Today you can still

| | downloaded and tried for free at this
|
| sometimes for slightly more than $1.00.
